English Name: Common ginger lily, Garland flower.

Description of the Plant:

A tall, rhizomatous herb with leafy stem. Leaves oblong or oblong-lanceolate. Spike 15-30 cm long, compact. Flowers large, white fragrant; corolla tube 7.6 cm long, segments half as long as the tube; staminodes about 5 cm long, oblong-lanceolate; lip broad, shallowly bifid, distinctly clawed. Capsule oblong, orange inside.

Mode of Uses:

  • An infusion of the leaves is used for baths in the treatment of anemia (Chakma).
  • Women used flower as ear ring. Flower also keep in head a symbol of beauty (Murang).

Distribution:

Chittagong, Chittagong Hill Tracts, Cox’s Bazar and sylhet, in fallow lands.
