Description of the Plant:

Woody climbers. Leaves coriaceous, broadly ovate to sub orbicular. Inflorescence cauliflorous; male flowers light yellowish at the base and female above. Drupes yellow to orange.

Chemical Constituents:

Plant contains ginnol, ß- & ?-sitosterol, an alkaloid - trilobine and a neutral substance. Root contains alkaloid stepharine (Asolkar et al., 1992).

Mode of Uses:

The leaf extract is given to drink frequently among Tanchangyas for rapid cure from diarrhoea in Rangamati.

Distribution:

Rarely found in the forest areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts.
