Description of the Plant:

An annual herb. Stem to 1 cm diameter, apparently to 50 cm. Leaf blade narrowly elliptic, slightly asymmetric, shortly acuminate. Spathe green, convoluate at base, open above. Fruit berry, bright red.

Mode of Uses:

  • The sap from the root is taken for conjunctivitis and constipation (Chakma).
  • A leaf extract is taken and a paste of the leaves is applied to the whole body for the treatment of hysteria (Tanchangya).
